As the school year ends, we all remember the glorious feeling of being a kid perched on the brink of vacation with weeks of summer stretched ahead as far as the eye could see. Whether looking forward to city park sprinklers, summer camp, family outings, cartoon marathons or endless days of riding bikes, skateboard and double-dutch there’s something magical about the long, hot summer days that give families a break from school routines. Workshop

Linda Wernikoff ran an informative conference. The presenters of the work shops were the best and most experience in the field of Special Education. The keynote speaker Richard D. Lavoie fascinated the standing room only audience of 500 people. One of his most poignant comments was inspired by the African proverb- “When Elephants Fight, It’s the Grass That Gets Trampled. Consequently, he was alluding to the children getting hurt when the parents and the school fight, and do not work together. (more…)

Bylaws Committee - Chair Mary Silver

The Bylaws Committee plans to review the council’s current bylaws to make recommendations to the 2007-2008 Council, and to ensure that the Council’s bylaws accurately reflect the most recent Office of Parent Engagement’s “Guide for Education Council’s Bylaws.” This guide states, under Article VIII Amendment of Bylaws: “Consistent with law, policy and regulations governing Community and Citywide Education Councils and the Department of Education, bylaws are amendable.” (more…)

A Letter from Our Community Superintendent for District 2

Dear District Two Families,

Most of us remember our own school days in classrooms with rows of seats facing a teacher who spent her day standing in front of the room (or sitting at her desk), writing on the board, asking us to read “round robin” style and assigning pages from our textbooks.
