A Letter from Region 9 Superintendent Peter Heaney
From the desk of Peter Heaney
June 22, 2007
Dear Community Education Council Members,
Over the last several years you have taken on many difficult tasks. You created a sense vision for the Council, you identified, discussed and executed productive actions on important topics, and you reinforced our belief in the important role parents can play in guiding the course of education in New York City.
Schools become empowered when they are allowed to make decisions. They become more effective and accountable when there is a forum for sharing good ideas and resolving common obstacles. With the coming of a new school year, new CEC members and a reorganization of the Department of Education it will be critical for you and your school communities to include representatives from the School Support Organizations and the Integrated Service Centers in your district planning conversations. I know your district will take the lead on modeling these discussions.
On behalf of our regional staff I thank you for making us feel so much a part of your community. I also wish to acknowledge the talented group of educators in Region 9. The quality of professionalism as reflected in our classrooms has been spectacular.
I am sure that the afterglow of our satisfaction will light the way for many successful years in District 2.
With much respect,
Peter

Dear Mr. Heaney,
It is so nice to see you write to the council members in this public forum. I have written you many letters but you have never responded. Should I post these on the internet to get a response from you?
Respectfully,
Rita Ashdale
